DONALD ROSS "SUDS" SUTHERLAND December 6, 1924 - December 20, 2012 With sadness we announce the sudden passing of our wonderful dad, Don Sutherland, on December 20, 2012 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Isobel Yvonne (nee Alleston). Greatest dad ever to Patricia and Janet (Alec, Kimberly and Jeffrey). Loving grandpa and maker of "perfect" french toast to Cameron and Allison Bell (Brad). Don is survived by his elder brother Robert of Lethbridge, Alberta, a great friend to him always and his nephew Rob. Born in Winnipeg, Don grew up in North Toronto and was educated at Hodgson Public School, Northern Secondary School and the University of Toronto. He joined the Air Force as soon as his age would allow and served proudly from 1943-1945. He met Isobel, the love of his life, while skating at Davisville park and they were happily married for sixty two and a half years. Dad was a patient and compassionate caregiver during her extended illness. Don had a rewarding 38 year career at Bell Canada, where he made lifelong friends. A committed volunteer, Don gave his time to a variety of causes and organizations. Sports were a passion for him; baseball, hockey, football and golf. Retirement for Don and Isobel was golf, tennis, extended trips to Florida with family and friends and countless hours spent with his grandchildren. Dad had a zest for life and a love of people that was reinvigorated when he moved to the Veterans Wing at Sunnybrook. The active social life and the friendships he enjoyed there made the last ten months a pleasure for him. Thanks to the staff of LFSE for their kindness. Dad and Grandpa, we weren't ready for you to leave us. Love always. Memorial donations to Sunnybrook Foundation Veterans or the Guillain-Barre Society would be appreciated. So sad to hear of your Dad's passing. I was visiting Heber Taylor a few months ago and wanted to see your Dad, but he was out with one of his daughters that day, so I never got to see him. My parents enjoyed both your Mom & Dad, having lots of fun at playing golf and partying together, etc. My sympathy and prayers are with you both. Lynda-Lee (Watts) Harding

Patricia & Janet, Your father flew (I'm pretty sure) with my father, Charles (Bomber) Harris in the RCAF '434 Bluenose Sqd' flying out of Thorthorpe, UK. My father has been gone for a long time, but always spoke fondly of 'Suds'. Sorry for your loss. Tim Harris [email protected] Email me if you want to know more.

We're never ready to lose the ones who are so dear and Don was very dear to all he knew. He was so good to me - because I was Patty's friend I was made to feel special. He helped me in lots of ways - painting my walls, fixing my dryer, putting up a light fixture - nothing was ever too much trouble. He cared about my family and always asked after them and was especially kind and good to my mom and Aunty Mina. Don was a special man - positive, happy, optimistic, outgoing - he could talk to anyone and make them feel good in the moment. He loved his "girls" with all his heart and they can carry that with them forever. love to all of you from Carol and family

Played baseball and golf with Suds for many years and I also worked at Bell for 37 years. he was a great guy and a super compeditor. He and I played the final match in the b flight chapionship at Aurora Highlands in the 60s and I had just thought of that a few days ago. All the best to the family. Gerry Jackson
