CHISWELL, ISOBEL MARGARET (WILSON)
ISOBEL MARGARET (WILSON) CHISWELL It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Isobel Margaret (Wilson) Chiswell at Markham Stouffville Hospital after several months of illness, on November 16, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas Aitken Wilson and Edith Mary (Raven) Wilson, both of Toronto and her brother Albert Edward (Ted) Wilson of Stevenson Island, Manitoba. Isobel was born April 29, 1929 at Toronto East General Hospital. As a child, her active and happy summers were spent at the family's cottage on Ward's Island, Toronto. She attended Toronto Normal Model School, Brown Public School and Northern Vocational School. She was a member of the Toronto Children's Operatic Society for four years and in high school, she was active in the Translake Club at Northern. It was through this club that she met Ross Leslie Chiswell and after four years of courtship, they married on September 22, 1951 at St. James-Bond United Church in Toronto. Isobel was working at that time for the London Life Insurance Company, but left there to start a family. While raising seven children she always kept herself active, including even selling Avon for a few years. When the family was older, Isobel went to work in the boy's department of the Robert Simpson Company, Fairview Mall, Toronto. She worked there for thirteen years and when Simpson's failed, she moved on to the Canada Trust Company for another five years before retiring in 1989. Isobel was a member of the York Heritage Quilt Guild until she and Ross moved to Uxbridge in 2000 where she joined the Port Perry Patchers so that she could continue her quilting activities. She was also an avid genealogist for many years (writing four books of her family's history) and served as chair of the Uxbridge Genealogy Group for some time. Isobel is survived by her husband Ross and her children Alan (Kim McCandless) of Cookstown, Leslie (John Goodyear) of Toronto, Beverley Hubbard of Toronto, Wendy (Steve Gutoskie) of Whitby, Janet (John Eltherington) of Uxbridge, Roy (Manon Gagnon) of Uxbridge and Douglas (Bernie, Kiragh and Liam Gibson) of Brooklin. Isobel is survived by her grandchildren Trevor Chiswell, Casey Chiswell, Megan, Haley and Reid Eltherington and Laura and Elyssa Chiswell. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Lisa Saraceno (Rocky). Isboel is also survived by her great-grandchildren Tyler Todhunter-Chiswell and Kyara and Rocky Jr. Saraceno. Isobel has been cremated and her ashes will be buried in the Uxbridge Cemetery. A happy remembrance of Isobel's life will be held in the spring of 2015. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Uxbridge Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, c/o St. Andrew's-Chalmers Presbyterian Church, 40B Toronto St. S., Uxbridge, ON L9P 1G9.
