HEROLD, RICHARD
RICHARD HEROLD 1955 - 2016 Youngest child of Gert and Cas, favourite uncle of 40 nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and best friend to 'sibs' Donna (Mike Lauber), Cas (Jo Anne), John (Judy (deceased), Sharon), Susan (Doug Wyatt) and Marian (Declan Magrane). Small in stature, but huge in kindness, empathy and intelligence - that was our Rick. Or, as some people lovingly called him - 'Guncle'. Just shy of his 61st birthday, Rick died peacefully in his sleep. His big heart simply stopped. His incredible knowledge of history, his passion for politics and his love of debating made for many spirited dinner table conversations - in Ottawa, Sudbury, Toronto and at Thunder Bay Beach. An environmentalist long before it was fashionable, Rick never took more than he gave back. And he never backed away from addressing a perceived injustice to someone else. The world will truly be a little emptier without him. The family is having a private ceremony to celebrate Rick's life and lay him to rest with Mom and Dad. If desired, donations in Rick's memory would be appreciated by the Judy Herold Bursary c/o Northern Cancer Foundation, Sudbury, The 519 - Space For Change or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
