Riddell, James "Jim"  
RIDDELL, James (Jim) — With great sadness the family of James Riddell announces his passing on Monday, May 2, 2016, at the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Jim is survived by his daughters; Karen, Carol Anne and Susan. Jim served in the C.B.O. of the Royal Canadian Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Isabel Bayley and they celebrated 64 years of marriage together. He was an avid golfer, traveller and read widely. He enjoyed a long life, devoted to his close extended family and life long friends. We would like to extend our thanks to the truly remarkable people who cared for Jim during his time in Sunnybrook. He will be remembered with great respect, admiration and affection to those who knew and loved him. If desired, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Foundation Veterans Palliative Care Unit. Loving husband for 28 years to Stella and proud father of Giancarlo and Teresa. Cherished son of Theresa and the late Annunziato . Visitations will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave.) on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph the Worker Church (191 Wade Gate - Centre St., east of Dufferin St.) on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Westminster Cemetery (5830 Bathurst St., north of Finch Ave.). RAVA, Laila - Born July 12, 1938 in Riga, Latvia. Passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the Scarborough General Hospital, after a brave battle with cancer. Daughter of the late Valentins and Hermine Pavuls; dear sister to the late Valentins Jr.; ex-wife to the late Andy Rava and loving mother to the late Robert Rava. Laila will be sadly missed by her children Erik and Peter (Riina) and grandchildren Rachel, Jonah and Joshua and loving brother Andy (Phyllis) Pavuls, niece Monica McKay and nephew Valentins Pavuls. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Rd., 416-267-4656. A Chapel Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Loving grandfather of Damon (Marianka) Berlin, Lara (Michael) Butcher, Sarah (Ryan) Carlson, Jeremy (Elisa) Birch, Christopher Fergusson and Michael (Jessica) Fergusson and great- grandfather of Katie, Matthew, David, Emily, Ethan, Raylan, Trevor and Tessa. Ramey, Mary  
Mary Margaret RAMEY Left this world peacefully April 29, 2016 at the Toronto General Hospital, in her 96th year. Mary was born April 15, 1921 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Loving sister to Pilot Officer Lyman Ramey (1944); Joan Bouchard (2014) (Marc); Monica Evelegh (John); John Ramey (1999); Peter Ramey (2008) (Margaret Friesen); and Noel Ramey (Loreen Hardy); predeceased by her parents Kathryn (Kelter) and Harry Ramey; predeceased by dear friend and companion, Charlie Benn. Mary will be missed by 12 nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends. In the 1920s the Ramey family moved to Cobalt, the famous mining town, and Mary enjoyed much of her youth there until she enrolled in the nursing program at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. She was devoted to her nursing career as well as St. Michael's, and advanced to become Head Nurse of the Cystoscopic Department. She retired at age 69 after a 44-year career. Mary had many personal interests including politics, cooking and travel. In later life she became an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, and communicated regularly with family and friends about the games, quoting statistics, and commenting on player performance. Mary will be remembered for her devotion to nursing, her humour and enjoyment of life. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 78 Clifton Road at St. Clair Avenue on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Toronto General Hospital who offered such tender care. Donations made to St. Michael's Hospital or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will be greatly appreciated.

SARO (ROSARIO) RE January 11, 1938 - April 30, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Saro Re, following a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Maria Re (nee Ricci) for 49 years, adored father of Gina (Nick Cardinale) and Marco, cherished Nonno of Samantha, Lauren and Emma. Predeceased by his son Sammy, his parents Salvatore and Giovanna Re, father-in-law Domenico Ricci and other members of the family. Saro will be greatly missed by his sisters Maria and Giovanna, brother- law Tony (Yolanda) and mother- in-law Giovannina and his many nieces and nephews and their families. Saro was born in Baucina, Sicily and immigrated to Canada in 1958. Through many years of hard work in construction and with the City of Toronto he provided a wonderful life for his family. A true gentleman, Saro's kind and social nature endeared him to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation will be held at Bernardo Funeral Home, 2960 Dufferin St., Toronto, on Monday, May 2nd from 6:00- 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 3rd from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00- 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 4th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 811 Lawrence Ave. West, Toronto. Resting Place Forest Lawn Mausoleum, 4570 Yonge St., Toronto. If desired, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
