Yeo, Ellard
YEO, Ellard William — It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our cherished father and grandpa, Ellard William Yeo, on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in his 94th year. Devoted husband of the late Joyce (Jackson) Yeo, who were married for 63 years. Loving father of the late Nancy, Robert (Shaen), Janet Hume (Philip) and Donna. Proud grandfather of Laura and Michael; Jeffrey, Stephanie and Ian; and Antonisha. Son of Frederick and Jugertha Yeo. Brother of Ronald (Margaret), Aleda James (Keith) and Leonard (Ruth). Born in Woodstock, Ontario, Ellard lived in St. Thomas, Montreal, St. Catharines and Toronto. After marrying Joyce in 1943, they moved to the air training facility at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He saw active duty as a Lancaster Bomber Navigator during World War II with the Royal Air Force. After the war, Ellard started as a Chartered Accountant. He held senior executive positions at Dominion Bridge, Acco Canada and Niagara Structural Steel. Ellard spent many years as President and General Manager for Peckover's Limited - a metals distributor based in Toronto. After retirement, he formed a consulting practice advising family-owned businesses. Ellard was active in his community, being a member of the Rotary Club and a longtime member of Kingsway-Lambton United Church. He and his wife, Joyce, travelled extensively for business and pleasure. Recently Ellard lived independently at Christie Gardens where he was very active and enjoyed outings and events with the many friends he made there. Ellard was a gentleman, always curious and engaged in the world around him, genuinely interested in people and their stories and remembering even the smallest details. He read the newspaper daily from cover to cover. Family was a focus of Ellard's and Joyce's lives. Every holiday and birthday involved a family get together. Extended visits with the growing family of grandchildren at the cottage and in Florida were a special treat for all. He was deeply engaged in his children's and grandchildren's lives and activities - always asking questions and supporting their choices. He will be deeply missed. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto, at Windermere Ave., east of Jane subway, Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. There will be a private funeral for immediate family. Donations would be appreciated to Parkinson Society Canada. Online condolences can be made through www.turnerporter.ca
