ANDRE ALLAIN Died peacefully at Toronto Western Hospital on July 24, 2013 of pneumonia. Loving husband of Maureen and wonderful father to Charles (Glenda), Suzanne (Michael), Vivienne (Alan) and Michelle (Steve). His adored 9 grandchildren are Nathan, Dominique, Kieran, Sarah, Jonathan, Stephen, Ryan, Micaela and Isabelle. Also surviving him are his sister Jeannine Pensec, her family and his extended family in France. Andre was born in Brittany, France on May 9, 1928. His mother died of TB when he was only 7. Though he excelled at school he had to quit to look after the farm at age 11 when his father was drafted for WWII. Later, he did his military service in Algeria and migrated to Canada at age 22. He worked in lumber camps in Ontario then moved to Golden, BC to set up his own lumber business. There he met his cherished wife Maureen. They married in Toronto in 1961. Thereafter Andre worked most of his life in the manufacturing and sale of lamps/giftware and furniture. Together they raised 4 children and were immensely proud of them all. Andre loved family gatherings, gardening, politics, joking and all things French. Andre and Maureen stayed in their family home for over 40 years and celebrated their 50th Anniversary in September 2011. Andre had a cerebral hemorrhage in February 2012 and eventually moved to Kingsway Retirement Residence. Sadly during this time Maureen was also hospitalized for a complex leg fracture and then her own cerebral hemorrhage. His visitation will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Lynett Funeral Home (3299 Dundas St. West) and a memorial will later follow on the weekend of October 4-6, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
