Bill CATE Obituary

CATE, Bill - Our father passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Whitby, at the age of 101 years. Predeceased by his wife Pat Cate of 70 years. Survived by his daughters Evelyn (David), Irene (Catie), sister Nora Colqhoun and sister-in-law Elsie Trafford. Grandchildren Sarah (Brian), Geoffrey (Sharla) and five great-grandchildren - Bryn, Rhys, Adele, Seth and Gabe. He will be sadly missed by his many nephews, nieces and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, 300 Dundas Street West, Whitby, Ontario.

I remember Bill since becoming a member of the SARC ARC meetings held at Sir Osler Memorial School, Huntongwood Rd. He often had difficulty in remembering my name and got a real thrill in calling me "JIM".

I have known Bill for around fifty years from my association with ham radio and the Scarborough Amateur Radio Club ve3we.org, and he held the call sign, VE3HR and had been a "ham" since about 1923 or 1924. He was a true gentelman and will be remembered and missed by many who knew him. Rest In Peace, old friend. Gordon Hogarth, VE3CNA
