CHRIS SAU YAN CHAN 70, of Toronto, died peacefully on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill surrounded by his family. Born in Macau, October 23, 1942, he was the son of the late Zhi Kee and Soo Ngor Chan and a brother to 3 siblings. Chris immigrated to Canada in 1968 to pursue his MBA and was married to Eleanor Kwok Chun shortly after in 1970. Chris left Ernst & Young after achieving his Chartered Accountant designation in 1973 to founded his own accounting and business consulting firm Chan & Co. Through 40 years of business, clients and friends remember Chris for both his sound advice and also his warm generosity. Chris counted many of his clients and colleagues among his closest friends and he truly enjoyed their company in business as well as fly fishing and on the golf course. Chris was known, particularly, to be a guiding figure for his family. He enjoyed having his extended family with him in Toronto and was ever the beloved host at dinners and events. Chris is survived by his wife Eleanor; daughters Constance Chan and husband Sebastien Sherman of Toronto and Stephanie Chan and husband David Rostan of New York; sister Amy; grandchildren Evan Sherman- Chan, Charlotte Rostan and Avery Rostan; and very dear nieces and nephews. A service will be held to remember Chris' life on Friday, January 4th at 10 a.m. at Highland Funeral Home, 10 Cachet Wood Court, Markham (NE corner of 16th Avenue and 404) and visitation will begin at 9 a.m. After the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens and a lunch reception will follow.
