Edward (Ted) Barker

EDWARD (TED) BARKER April 20, 1924 - September 1, 2011 We are sad to announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle on September 1, 2011 at the age of 87. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Beryl, his children Jeff (Monica), Janet (John) and Linda (Ken). Idolized by his grandchildren Matthew, Angela, Jeff, Kevin, Adam, Tim and Natalie. Sadly missed by his brother Trevor and predeceased by his brother (and partner in crime) Dennis. Ted was notorious for his sense of humour, his love of history and his scientific prowess. He was born in Birmingham, England and was a veteran of World War II. After having survived as a POW during the war, he emigrated to Canada with his family in 1957. Upon retirement, Ted enjoyed pursuing a higher education and was extremely proud to receive his BA in Medieval History at the tender age of 74. Ted also obtained his private pilot's license in 1981. In his later years Ted's favourite pastime was spending time at the cottage he built himself, with his extended family and friends. Family will receive friends at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village (Ajax), 905-428-8488, on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 11:00-11:30 a.m. with a celebration of Ted's life to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel. A reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to convey their appreciation to the wonderful staff in the ICU at the Rouge Valley Ajax- Pickering Hospital.
