EVELYN WHITTENBURY CORK

EVELYN WHITTENBURY CORK Born May 14, 1925 in London, England, Eve was raised in Devonshire, where her father, later Sir William Slater, was Director of Research and Agricultural Industries at Dartington Hall. In 1942 he was seconded to the National Agricultural Advisory Service (NAAS) in London and charged with supplying an adequate diet to the whole population of Great Britain. In 1943 the family joined him in London, where Eve attended Bedford Training College for Teachers, graduating in 1946. In 1950 she attained a Child Service Certificate from The University of Birmingham. On graduation, Eve entered the field of children's care in various parts of England. In 1955 she came to Canada and joined the Protection Department of the Children's Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto as head of Moberly House, a residence for teenaged girls. In late 1960 she left Moberly House and married Kendall Cork on the last day of December. Together they raised four children - Sarah (Robert), John (Lori), Peter and Mary (Shannon). A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Hockley Valley Resort in Orangeville, Ontario on May 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Hospice Dufferin, 39 First St., Orangeville, ON L9W 2E3 and Upper Credit Humane Society, 5383 Trafalgar Rd., Erin ON N0B 1T0.
