GAIL (BURFORD) FRANKLIN Gail Elizabeth Jane (Burford) Franklin, 61, passed away peacefully at the Dorothy Ley Hospice on Saturday, January 26, 2013 after a valiant tangle with cancer. She was soulmate, partner and best friend to Steve, her devoted husband of 28 years; loving mother to step-daughter Amanda; beloved sister of Paul and Mark Burford and his partner Cres; cherished aunt of nephew Brock and nieces Tamara and Havana, step-nephew Josh and step- niece Lyssa. Dearly loved by Steve's sisters Regina (deceased) (husband Bruce) and Rosemary and his brothers Howard (Celia) and Kevin (Fran) and their children Andrew, Michael, David; Jayson, Andrea; Samantha and Rebecca; by cousins Bob and Nancy Burford, Gerry and Jennifer Burford and Margaret Jane Burford; by cousins Rosemary Clark, Sylvia and Larry Goss, Andrew and Debbie Shallhorn King and Philip King; and by her Uncle Bob (Robert) King. Predeceased by wonderful parents Fred and Mary (King) Burford. Gail will also be missed by many second cousins and other members of the extended Bilyea and King families; and by Dudley, Macy and Timmy, her canine centerpieces of joy. Gail's devotion to family and delight in dogs and nature were perhaps equalled only by her interest in entertainment and fashion: she worked for 23 years at Flare Magazine, retiring as assistant to the publisher and never failed to be the "fashion queen" in her dazzling and highly individual sense of style. Gail's radiant smile, mirror to the sunlight she loved to bathe in, was a window to the warmth, friendliness, intelligence and humour with which she spread happiness to everyone she knew; her zest for life was matched only by the bravery with which she lived it to the end. The family would like to thank the staff at the Dorothy Ley Hospice for their caring help. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Leaside United Church, 822 Millwood Road, Toronto, on Saturday, February 2, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) or the Dorothy Ley Hospice.
