GEORGE THORNTON Passed away on November 6, 2012 exactly where he wanted to be: at home, surrounded by friends and family. George Henry Ralph Thornton was an extraordinary man. A loving husband and father, a painter, businessman, gardener, world-traveller, practical joker, an entertainer with a bottomless pit of stories (some of them true), and a "scratch" golfer who regularly humiliated golfers half his age. He played his last round of golf in the summer of 2012 still carrying his own clubs at the venerable age of 86. Predeceased by Christina Isabel Thornton (née Coutts) on October 22, 1998, he will be sorely missed by his son Colin, daughter-in-law Alison, sisters Dorothy, Marie and Judith, a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and an even longer list of friends and neighbors. Condolences can be sent to: A private funeral has taken place. A celebration of a life well-played will be held at The CedarBrae Golf & Country Club, 6431 Steeles Ave., (east of Markham Rd.) on Saturday, November 17th from 2 - 5 p.m. (No fragrances, please).
