MANDELBAUM, Henry - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Henry will always be remembered as an honourable, honest, open and humble man who touched the lives of so many. Henry took his love of family and friends, his work and his commitment to social justice very seriously. At the same time, he never took himself very seriously. Henry's humility, and ability to positively chuckle critically with others at himself never wavered. Henry is survived by his wife Thea Mandelbaum, his sister Anita Hotchkiss, his niece Debbie Clain and his nephew Dan Pruzan. A memorial service will be held at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, on Friday, December 14th at 11 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the United Way of Greater Toronto.

I knew Henry from his days in the 1980s as Executive Director of CAFA (the Confederation of Alberta Faculty Associations)--I was VP then President. He had come to us from working for Grant Notley and the caucus of the Alberta NDP. He and I worked closely together. I have fond memories of the great work he did and the sage advice he had for me here in Alberta before he moved to Ontario with OCUFA. I'll miss him.

Henry was a dear friend of last 30 years.
He was a compassionate, thoughtful and jovial person who never took himself too seriously. He was always able to move with and adapt to changes in life. Despite the devastating illness, his easy manner and chuckling style were on full display when we visited him last. He was a wonderful human being. We will miss him much but his personal strength and happy-go-lucky style will always cheer us on.

Henry was a lovely, warm (and very humorous) man whom it was my pleasure and privilege to know.

I knew Henry for many years and worked with him challenging bad policies of governments of every stripe. He was staunchly principled, but disarmingly jovial. An amazing, dedicated and compassionate human being.
