HILDA MAY STRICKER

HILDA MAY STRICKER (nee WITTER) Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family at Southlake Residential Care Village in Newmarket, Ontario on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in her 105th year. Hilda was the dear wife of the late William Stricker of Lambton County. She is survived by her loving children Lyle Stricker (Barbara) of Havelock, Audrey Mae Gorry (Frank) of Uxbridge, Dianne Martin (Harvey) of Bradford, as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Hilda was born on December 12, 1908 in a log cabin on Stone Road in Guelph, Ontario, daughter of the late Gustave and Myrtle Witter and sister of the late Viola Bonin, Mervin Witter, Vera Bell and Audrey Witter. Hilda grew up in Linwood in the Kitchener/Guelph area and married Bill Stricker in 1932 in Beamsville. They resided in Hamilton, Scarborough and Willowdale, Ontario. Hilda and Bill enjoyed an active social life with a cottage at Wasaga Beach and yearly winter stays at their home in Pompano Beach, Florida. Later, Hilda enjoyed several winters in Port Richey, Florida and made many friendships on trips to Alaska, New Orleans and Nova Scotia. At home, Hilda enjoyed time playing cards, bingo and Hymn Sing with her friends at Hamilton Place (Cedarview Lodge), activities with the Young at Heart seniors group, visiting family cottages on Belmont Lake in Havelock and Leonard Lake in Muskoka and enjoying social activities of all kinds. Hilda made a friend everywhere she went. Her smile was contagious and her positive attitude and incredible energy kept her active throughout her life. She will be profoundly missed by and forever in the hearts of all of her family and friends. Special thanks to the staff of the 5th floor at Southlake Residential Care Village for their loving care and kindness. Friends and family may call at the Taylor Funeral Home, 524 Davis Drive, Newmarket, ON, on Saturday, March 16 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Toronto.
