LORNE BRUCE STEWART

LORNE BRUCE STEWART, B.A., M.B.A. After a courageous battle with ALS, Lorne "Bruce" Stewart, age 66 of Stratford passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Born in Hamilton on May 25, 1946, Bruce grew up in Toronto and graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with his B.A. and his M.B.A. For 39 years, Bruce was a teacher at the elementary, secondary and college level. Bruce was community-minded and was Stratford Citizen of the Year honouree in 2011. He especially enjoyed the service and camaraderie of the Rotary Club of Stratford and was honoured with the Paul Harris Award. He also volunteered for many years for the Friends of the Festival. His hobbies included bridge, choirs, theatre, biking, hiking, tennis and racquetball. Bruce is survived by his cherished wife, Connie (Butson), his beloved children, Jennifer and Greg (Lyndsey) and dear granddaughter Annabelle. He is also survived by his loving parents, George and Edna (Davis) Stewart, his only sibling, Joyce (Peter) Odlund, brothers- in-law Rod (Patti) Butson and Bill (Rory) Butson, six nieces and nephews, and four great- nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford, on Saturday, April 11th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at St. John's United Church, 175 Waterloo Street South, Stratford on Sunday, April 14th at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow.
