Maurice Edmund GELLEY

GELLEY, Maurice Edmund - The family of M. Edmund (Ed) Gelley is sad to announce his passing on Monday, May 5, 2014, in his 91st year. He was predeceased in 2011 by the love of his life Ruth. He leaves his children Barbara (Keith Hendy), David (Corinne LaBossiere), Richard, Patrick (Peggy-Sue Caldwell); his grandchildren Gregory (Hazel Craig), Mark, Victoria, Mitchell, Matthew; his great- grandchildren Madeline and Declan; his sister Maurine Gelley; and his sister-in-law Joan Pert. Ed was born in Winnipeg in 1924 where he went to school, served in the Air Force during the war years and started his lifelong career in merchandising by joining The Hudsons Bay Co. Ed and Ruth met as teenagers, married in 1947 and were happy together for the next 64 years. In 1954, the family moved to Toronto and Ed joined CORO Jewellery. It was the beginning a new adventure in the new community of Don Mills and St. Bonaventure's Parish. After 20 years, Ed formed a new sales agency with son Dave which solidified their lifelong closeness. Ed and Ruth moved to a farm property near Bolton, fulfilling their wish of living in the country. When Ed retired, he and Ruth moved to Brockville which was half way between family in Toronto and Ed's sister, Maurine, in New Hampshire, where they also had a vacation home. In later years, they moved back to Toronto to be near family and lived at Humber Heights Retirement Village. A private family mass celebrating Ed's life was held on Friday, May 9th at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Albion, near Caledon East where he is buried with Ruth in the beautiful countryside that they loved. Donations in Ed's memory to the Arthritis Society (www.arthritis.ca) would be appreciated. Arrangements by Egan Funeral Home, Bolton (905-857-2213).
