Ruth Ellen Vallis White

white, Ruth Ellen Vallis - October 14, 1918 - February 23, 2014 "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Ruth made her passage from this life to the next in the presence of family on S unday evening, February 23, 2014. She is survived by only son, Patrick (Elizabeth), granddaughters Jennifer (Frank) Carnevale and Rebecca (Delroy) White, great-grandchildren Dallas, Luca and Matteo and sisters Catherine Egan (Stamford, UK) and Audrey (Alan) Maunder (Bath, UK) as well as many nieces and nephews. Her beloved George passed away in January, 1979. Ruth began her life in Bermuda. In 1953 she, George and Patrick immigrated to Toronto to make Canada their new home and adopted country. Ruth maintained, part-time in Toronto with the Robert Simpson Company, the working life she had begun in Bermuda. She gave that up before she and George moved to Montreal in 1971. Following George's death in 1979, she decided to return to Toronto to be close to Patrick, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Rebecca. Special friend, Pam Pole also moved from Montreal around the same time and that friendship meant much to both as they each made difficult transitions. Ruth was an active, outgoing person whose interests included badminton, tennis, cross-country skiing and line dancing. Among her valued associations were her memberships in NYNA (North York Newcomers Association) Christian Women's and Evangelist Marney Patterson's "Invitation to Live". Generous to a fault, Ruth was determined that "charity" would not end "at home" and that extended to the wider family and a multitude of charities. Informing this and central to her life was an ongoing and active involvement in the church. And that continued as she was able to the end. Her faith was more acted upon than spoken. As faithfully as she served, so faithfully did the church serve her to the end of her days. Thanks be to God! A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Friday, March 21st beginning at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Ascension, 33 Overland Drive, Don Mills. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to send donations to Thompson House, 1 Overland Drive, Toronto, ON M3C 3M3.
