Thomas Douglas FLETCHER

FLETCHER, Thomas Douglas (Doug) - After a sudden illness, Doug passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2012, in his 81st year, at Humber River Regional Hospital Church Street Site, Toronto. His loving wife Marna (Mathiasen), sister Barbara Wraith and other family members were all at his side. Doug's distinguished career with the Bank of Montreal began in St. Marys, Ontario, where he was born and spanned more than 40 years, including a stint at the Toronto branch where he met Marna. Assigned together to many branches across Ontario, their joint careers ultimately took them to First Canadian Place in Toronto, where Doug was the manager of call loans before retirement. He will be sadly missed by family, friends, former colleagues from the bank, particularly those with whom he helped organize the annual Bank of Montreal Pensioners' Luncheon, and neighbours on Rathburn Road, where he was always ready to help. Doug was predeceased by his brothers Donald and George, sisters Norma (Benner) and Betty (Charlish), sisters-in-law Ruth Gard (Donald) and Alice Born (Gordon) and brother-in-law Harald Mathiasen (Audrey). Doug is survived by his wife Marna, his sister Barbara Wraith (Harry) of Lucan, Ontario and brother-in-law Peter Mathiasen (Elna) of Aldergrove, British Columbia, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand- nephews. Funeral Service will be held at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, 1498 Avenue Road, Toronto, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at York Cemetery. The family thanks Toronto Police Services, EMS and hospital staff in the emergency ward and the Critical Care Centre for their kindness, support and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca
