Looking good at our special Canadian Family feast in Dunedin in Oct. I will miss our special times.
I have had to stop myself a few times when I think to give you my nightly calls. I'll still talk to you in my own way. Love you Mom! xo ping

A true inspiration for all of us who have had the joy of even meeting her just once . My most profound memory was of her pride at showing me Pam's dissertation after Pam completed her studies. So proud and lovely, Catharine

Oh my gosh, I want to amend my note from the weekend. As I was reading it over today I noticed my error, Cathy I am so sorry to have missed you in y tribute to Mom and Dad. I knew there were four of you just like the were four McAlpines. Please forgive me and know that I am thinking of you all as you have the daunting task of wrapping up the Dunedin house. We know how much love and strength that takes and we wish you all well. Love you you all, Judy McAlpine Duffy

Brian and I have been friends since grade 2, and so I have known the Spence family for most of my life. I remember vividly that the Spence household was a great place to begin a Saturday. Because there are four siblings there was always some action, and both Mr. and Mrs. Spence were wonderful in allowing us to have fun racing around the house for an hour or two. Mrs. Spence was also great for organizing outings. I recall in particular a trip to the African Lion Safari. We drove through the animal sanctuary in the Spence's enormous 1964 Chevrolet station wagon. The rules were that we had to stay inside the car with the doors locked and windows up. For at least a few minutes we watched helplessly, but with some delight, as what seemed like dozens of monkeys climbed and clawed across the Chevy's roof, windshield and hood. Even though it was Mrs. Spence's car that was being vandalized, no one was enjoying the monkey attach more than her. I also recall many great weekend lunches in the Spence TV room and lively dinners around the dining room table. Mrs. Spence's warmth, engaging personality, involvement in the community and keen interest in everything of importance set a great example. Pam, Brian, Rick, Cathy, my thoughts are with you, your spouses and children.

Aunt Jean (really the wife of my second cousin, once removed, but called “aunt” as she was a generation above) was a bit intimidating to me as a child. A tall woman with a husky voice and an American! Aunt Jean was so friendly and full of laughter. At family gatherings she was usually the center of a raucous group. Still she always took time to find out what her shy, quiet “niece” was up to. The Spence family quilt now has another large hole. I'll miss her.

Pam, Rick and Brian we cannot be with you in Florida sharing memories of our times together with our families. The laughs we had together as kids and the fond memories shared by our parents. They are together now at the bridge table smiling down on us as they are together again. Much love from Schomberg, Ontario. Judy and Gerry Duffy and Kevin and Paul Mets

Dear Pam, Brian, Rick, and Cathy,
We were so very sad to hear of your Mom's passing. She was a terrific lady! I have so many happy memories from days gone by when our parents enjoyed time together, usually at the bridge table :) I have no doubt that they are all together now, smiling down on all of us.
Much love,
Anthony and Janet Nestico and family

All four of us, Pam, Brian, Rick and Cathy, are now in Florida and know the funeral will be much too far away for almost everybody. Please know there will be a Toronto function in a few months to which you would be most welcome to attend, but in the meantime perhaps some of you would like to join us at this time by sharing here a story, memory, anecdote or photograph. Our memories are getting rusty these days, and any recollections of yours will bring us smiles and warm thoughts.
Best love, Brian, Rick, Cathy and Pam
