To the Paolini and McGarry families,
I am so saddened by our loss. Joanne has been a gift to me since we had lockers beside each other in grade 9. Joanne has always been "sure and steady" as we have travelled life together. So many memories, I will miss her terribly. To you her family, I offer condolences and prayers, she loved you all so much. Sincerely Mary Lou Gunn ( McGraw)

David and family,
I never met Joanne McGarry. but I know her competence and kindness touched all those in the Catholic Civil Rights League. She was the CCRL "voice" -- and a wonderful missionary for Christ. Pray for us, Joanne.

The loss of my beloved sister Joanne in the prime of her life has been difficult for all of us who loved her. I am gratified by the fact that she meant so much to so many people. I take an older brother's pride in all of her accomplishments. Whether reading her pieces or watching her on television, I was always impressed by her talent. I will really miss her wit and humour - I look forward to its continuation when we are re-united in the next life. At that time I also intend to continue my life long quest to teach her Math.
To David, Laura, Sarah, and Daniel: I join you in your grief and sorrow. Joanne will always live in our hearts. Her positive influence will always be there to guide you along the right path. She lived her life with honour, integrity and dignity and now she is in a better place. R.I.P Joanne.

Aunt Joanne was always an inspiring, comforting, and loving presence in my life. She always had the right words to say and put the needs of others before her own. Joanne was an amazing sister to my father, Michael, as well as a wonderful aunt to my sister and I. I have so many fond memories at her house: playing hide and seek in the basement, the annual family Christmas party, lots of backyard barbecues, and many more. Her passing is a great shock, and my heart goes out to David, Laura, Sarah, and Daniel. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Aunt Joanne,
You have always been an inspiration to me. You have accomplished so much, in your career, as a Catholic, as a wonderful mother and aunt. I am proud to have your name as my middle name. Thank you for always bringing our family together over the years for holidays and fun. You are in my thoughts and prayers always.
Uncle Dave, Laura, Sarah, and Daniel,
You have been lucky to have such a wonderful wife/mother. It was always obvious how much she loved you and how proud she was of you. I really wish she could have stayed with us longer. But at least she has given us so many good memories to hold on to. Now, I bet she and my dad are joking about Sammy, up in the sky
Sending you lots of love,
Lucy

I was deeply saddened to hear of my cousin Joanne`s passing. Although we seldom saw each other during our adult years, I was always interested to listen to her on a number of occasions, over the years, when she took part in panel discussions and interviews on CBC Radio, always presenting solidly reasoned views on issues she felt strongly about. Her strength of belief and intellect will clearly be missed. My deepest condolences, at this sad time, to her Family and all who were personally close to her.

Joanne and I went to the same high school and our paths crossed again a few years ago through work. She still had that same wicked sense of humour and could always make me laugh. She was also a very sweet and gentle soul and I know she is now in the arms of God. She will be greatly missed.

Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others. – Plato
Joanne's good actions were plentiful and customary to her family and friends. Her generous family gatherings are a special memory to me. Her kind words at just the right moment, her open love for her children – for all of her family - her many accomplishments and written words that gave strength and encouragement to others: perhaps these are the source of Joanne's great strength.
I miss you, friend,
Carol

I did not know Joanne well or for a long time but was most impressed with her work at the Catholic Civil Rights League and The Catholic Register. I remember making a donation to the League over the phone and how gracious and grateful she truly was. My deepest condolences to Joanne's entire family and the CCRL family.

I am so saddened by the news of Joanne's passing. She is someone I have always admired throughout the years. First as a "9'er" at St. Joe's Wellesley and later in life in her unwavering work for the dignity f all human persons. She will always be a giant in my heart and I believe she is now accompanying our new great saints John Paul II and John XXIII. My deepest condolences in this very sad time. Dear David and family:
How blessed I was to have a chance to know Joanne and enjoy her friendship. She was supportive of all my artistic efforts, and her face shone with a light of faith and hope whenever we met for lunch. It was another blessing to my life to learn more about the CCRL through her tireless efforts as its Executive Director.
She will be missed by so many but God knew the time was right for her to go home to Him, and on a day when our Church was full of celebration.
Be assured of my prayers for all of you.

I am so sorry to hear of your great loss of your mom, your wife, and our colleague, Joanne. I met Joanne on the first day of grade 9. What drew her to me was her laughter. She always found the fun in each and every day. Our children attended St. Monica's together and the Joanne I first encountered at St Joe's was still the same. Over the years I could always count on her for hilarious e-mails that never failed to make me laugh and see the lighter side of life. She was a great friend!I feel blessed to have known her and incredibly sad at the loss of her.
