ALDO GUIDOLIN Obituary

ALDO RENO GUIDOLIN Passed away peacefully at the Village of Riverside Glen, on November 8, 2015, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Whetstone) Guidolin (May 2015). Dear father of Barbara and her husband Mike Walker of Barrie. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Gerald Guidolin (Gail), George Guidolin (Linda), Bianca Maschio (late Gino) and the late Melva Zacher (late Frank). Aldo made his childhood dream a reality. His successful hockey career spanned 37 years, in the NHL and AHL. As a player, winning the Memorial Cup with the Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters (1952), playing for the New York Rangers (1952-1956), winning the Calder Cup (1956) with the Providence Reds, two time First Team All Star selection with the Cleveland Barons and Player Coach for the Baltimore Clippers. From there, Aldo became a Scout for NHL teams (California Golden Seals, Atlanta Flames and Washington Capitals) and Assistant General Manager for the Colorado Rockies. When Aldo hung up his skates, he enjoyed selling real estate for T.T. Skov, for 25 years. Aldo was passionate about his cottage and friends on Clear Water Lake. He was a man of few words and his ambition, integrity and genuine smile will always be remembered. Aldo suffered numerous debilitating strokes with courage and his family would like to express their overwhelming gratitude to Dr. William Ruddock and the staff of Riverside Glen (Eramosa and Assisted Living) for the 6 years of care, love and compassion that was given to Aldo and Phyllis. Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, HART CHAPEL, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, on Wednesday, November 11th, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, November 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Vigil for Aldo will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at The Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate on Friday, November 13th at 11 a.m. His urn will be entombed at Marymount Cemetery, beside his beloved wife, at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Village of Riverside Glen Guelph (Staff Education Fund) or the Church of Our Lady Building Fund would be appreciated by the family. I hope his family still monitors this page. I was a hockey player and had Aldo as a coach for half a year in Omaha, 1974 -75. I was also a defenseman and he was the best coach I ever had. He took the time to teach me many drills, foot dexterity, foward to backward and backward to forward drills. That helped onward to win a championship in the C.H.L and the A.H.L. I am from out in Alberta so had not heard of his passing until I researched his name.RIP
