Norm was the Section Head of Biology when I first started my career at the CFS. Back then, forensic biology was undergoing drastic changes with many challenges. Norm was a great mentor and very supportive, especially for the “new kids on the block”. I appreciated his infinite patience for my infinite questions. His experience was invaluable. I am pleased that we kept in touch through the years. His joy of life was always an inspiration to me. I know he will be missed by many but great memories live on. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I am saddened that my good friend of more than 40 years has passed away so suddenly. Norm was a loyal friend, a principled gentleman and a loving family man. He has touched the lives of many people and, while he will be missed, he will be most fondly remembered. May this bring comfort to his family.
Sincere condolences from my family and I.

Our family was very sad to hear of Norm's passing. We got to know Norm while watching David and our son Max play hockey for the Pickering Panthers. Norm always had a twinkle in his eye when talking about Alison, Steve, Renee, and David. He was very proud of all of you. We are happy to have known him. Our love and prayers are with you all.

It was sad news to hear that our friend Norm has passed away. I've known Norm for over 28 years. He was always the perfect gentleman and a pleasure to be in his company. He had a great sense of humour and a great outlook on life. He will be sadly missed by his many friends at the Whitevale Golf Club.

Bruce and I were saddened to hear that Norm had passed away. I was Biology Secretary in the 70s, CFS AdminAsst for many years. He was a good friend. I was pleased to read of Norm's canoeing ventures. I sold him my canoe many years ago and I know he was proud of it after he had it refinished. He will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace Norm and deepest sympathy to all his family.

Norms' gentle caring nature is forefront in my mind. I met Norm Erickson in 1976 when he was head of the Hair and Fiber unit and I had just joined the Lab. Throughout the years as my mentor in H/F training and Biology Section Head until he retired in the mid 90's Norms' professional expertise and considerate way he handled every situation is part of his legacy.

I'm so saddened by Norm's passing. I first met Norm at the Centre of Forensic Sciences over 40 years ago and we have been friends all these years. He led me on hikes over Isle Royale and above the cabin in Rossport, and allowed me to paddle in the front of the canoe through Killarney and down the French River. I admired Norm as a forensic scientist; but, even more valuable to me, he was a friend who showed me how to experience the wonders of the Canadian wilderness. I'm sure his family, colleagues and friends know he lived life to its fullest, because I witnessed it every time we got together. Peace be with you Norm and with your family.

"Finish High" Norm would say to his team mates on the golf course. This he did in spades as he touched us all with his good will humour and compassion. We will surely miss his contributions to our life experiences. Frank Winter.

I deeply regret hearing this sad news and send my condolences to Norm's family. In my early years at the Centre, Norm and I shared a considerable number of cases. As a consequence we spent a good deal of quality time together while travelling to court. He was always especially fond of our trips to Thunder Bay (or to Port Arthur and Fort William as we had both known this locality before). I will greatly miss his presence at our annual rendezvous of retired employees.
