Any friend of Arthur Downes is a friend of mine. But I've no doubt Paul and I could have been friends even without Arthur's initiative. But it was all the richer for it. Birds of a feather and all that. Thanks to Arthur and sympathy to all Paul's kith and kin. Fair winds and following seas, Paul.

In the short 8 years I had the privilege of knowing Paul and receiving the benefit of his great wisdom and guidance, he became like a second father to me. He was always willing to share his wide knowledge and experience. I share your grief. Paul will be greatly loved and missed.

Paul was a much loved and irreplaceable friend and colleague. My son, Daniel, my late wife, Nita, and I, were fortunate to have known him and grateful for his wisdom and compassion. He is dearly missed.
