Albert Hulme-Smith Obituary

HULME-SMITH, Albert Messham - Descendent of Lady Clara Hulme-Smith. Formerly of Bombay, India; London, England; Montreal; Greenfield Park, Quebec; Peterborough and Richmond Hill. Born July 3, 1925 in Bombay; died peacefully March 10, 2009 at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Loving father of Lilian (Pat Legris) and proud and much loved 'Pa' to Lee Hart and Darcy Legris; great-uncle to Jane Hewitt. 'Smitty' is also fondly remembered by his companion and caregiver, Winnie Butler. Albert is predeceased by his wife Lily (Richmond Hill), his favourite niece and good friend Gloria Wright (Kitchener), and his brother and sister-in-law Serge and Elizabeth Remenant (Greenfield Park). Also predeceased by his parents William and Clara (Bombay and London), brothers: Bill and Sam (England), George (Bombay), Bernie (B.C.) and sisters: Clara (Manitoba), Emma, who was known as Billie (Bombay), Marie, Oriole, Adele, who was known as Odele, and the Baroness Ruth Daponte, all of England. If desired, donations in Smitty's memory may be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Interim Long Term Care B Wing. Rest in Peace Bert.

I would like to send my condolences to the family. Uncle Albert was my great uncle and my mother Shirley Wood (nee hulme-smith) was extrmely fond of him. We have many photos that may be of interest to you.

I remember Albert from the old days before he and his wife (my sister Lil) left England for Canada. He was always cheerful and friendly. I still mourn my sister who died in 2007 and now my wife Jan and I will add Albert to our daily prayers.
