ANDRIS GRINBERGS Obituary

ANDRIS GRINBERGS (Proprieter, Kristapsons, Inc.) Andris passed peacefully on Monday, October 26, 2015 in his 70th year of life. Born in Germany to Latvian parents Visvaldis Grinbergs and Erika Indzers Grinbergs, he immigrated to America with his family in 1950. He was a talented violinist, served in the United States Army in Vietnam and Germany. He worked in real estate in Florida before immigrating to Canada in 1986 to work with his uncle Osvalds Indzers at Kristapsons delicatessen. Owner and operator of Kristapsons, Inc. for over 25 years, he significantly expanded the business, reaching far beyond the Latvian community. His involvement in the community brought him joy as did his friends, family and employees who loved him very much. He is survived by sons Evan, Jack and Oliver, step- daughter Alexis, mother Erika Grinbergs, sisters Raita Sawyer and Rita Grinbergs, and former wife Suzanne Fraser. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 1st at the Brooklyn Tavern, next door to Kristapsons on Queen Street East for family and friends.

It saddens me to think that a dear friend whom I had met back in New Hampshire in the 1960's during a theatre production of the King and I has passed away. I was so impressed with his talent, as he was a student at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He was a wonderful individual, very kind and compassionate at a young age and I am certain will be remembered by everyone as a very kind soul that one does not forget. He left a Legacy of wonderful children and I am certain he will be looking down on them with many Blessings for their lives. Andris you shall be missed!

Some people stand out. Andy did. Gifted, engaging, accomplished, relational. We knew him and Raita in high school in upstate New York and ache over the loss of him from such a distance in time. Can't help being mindful of the far greater loss for those nearer and dearer. Most keenly aware of Raita, we send our love, asking the Lord to comfort you and the rest of the family as you savor and celebrate Andy's life.

I was saddened to hear that Andy had passed away but glad to learn that he had had such a full and interesting life serving this country through music and serving the Canadian people with wonderful Latvian food. It was a blessing to know him so many years ago, suave and Continental even as a teenager. My thoughts and prayers are with his whole family.

I fondly remember Andy from high school. I was hoping to see him again at our 50th high school reunion. Hearing him play the violin the first time brought me to tears. My condolences to the family and all of his friends. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

I am sorry to find out my neighbour has passed. We have been friendly for so many years. His health appeared to have been slipping for the last few years since his fall. It sounds as though his end was peaceful thankfully. All the best to the family. Sincerely Robbin and Sandi Hudson
