ANTHONY VANDERHOLST Kingston Firefighter - FFIC A loving, devoted husband and father who after a courageous battle with cancer in his 48th year, passed away peacefully February 9, 2011 at Kingston General Hospital surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Gail (nee Leach), proud and adoring father of Stephen, Patrick and Angela (Neil Simpson) and doting grandfather to Ava. Son to Corry and Arie VanderHolst. Anthony will be missed by his sisters Marg Johanson (Ed), Janey Williamson (Korry) and brother Henry (Adele). Son-in-law of Doug and Rita (February 5, 2010) Leach and brother-in-law to Anne Pilon (Greg), Doug Leach (MaryAnn) and Michael Leach. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews. A committed family man, Tony touched the lives of so many people in his service as a firefighter, as a coach and in his community with friends and neighbours. He lived his life to the fullest with his passion, dedication and strength of character. He was always first to lend a helping hand. Tony brought comfort, support and inspiration to everyone around him and his strength and selfless attitude was always with him even as his health failed. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, especially Doctor Owens, the palliative care team and all the nurses at the Kingston General Hospital. Special thank you to Des. The overwhelming love and support of his extended family from the Kingston Fire Department and his many friends brought such comfort to Anthony and his family. The visits, the 24 hour sentry duty meant so much to Anthony, Gail, Stephen, Patrick and Angela during his final days. Family and friends will be received at the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes - 435 Davis Dr. - Township Chapel (Taylor Kidd Blvd. and Centennial Dr.), on Sunday, February, 13, 2011 and on Monday, February 14, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 390 Days Rd., on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Firefighters Against Cancer's Existence (F.A.C.E.) in memory of Anthony.
