In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.I was at Glenforest when Mr. Forde was Principal. In hindsight, I never realized I was part of history as having the honour of having a Black principal as a woman of colour. I respected him a lot and it is with warmth that I remember him now. He was a great example of discipline, hard work and endurance to me as a young girl who had recently arrived in Canada. I do remember when he came into the lunch room, the guys with the boom boxes would automatically turn it down. Those were the days when we respected our elders. May he rest in peace. God bless and protect his legacy.

Deepest condolences to the Forde family. I was a student at Meadowvale Secondary and Mr. Forde was my principal and basketball coach. Truly the most influential person I have ever met. He change my life and taught me things that have stayed with me to this day. I am the person I am today because of his guidance. I am honored to have been mentored by such an incredible man. I think of him often and will never forget all that he has done for me and all of the lives that he has touched. I wish I could have told him this.

I'll never forget Mr.Forde at Meadowvale SS. A strong leader with a sense of humour who had a knack for defying convention. I'll miss talking to him in his store at Dixie Mall in the years after high school. His legacy is made up not only of his children but all of us who owe him our education. In later years, he insisted that I call him Arnie.

Thanks Arnie, you were a giant among men.

I first met mr.forde as a five yr old when meadowvale opened where my mom worked part time. and when I returned as a 14 yr old he instantly remembered my name and the times he used to get me ice cream sandwiches and tell me stories. He kept an eye on me and kept me on the right path. He helped us all stay on that path. I will forever be grateful for his vision, his guiding hand and his tough but nurturing love. You may be gone but your voice forever is in my heart. My condolences to the family of this great great man.

Mr. Forde, you were a real leader and we at all had a great respect for you. Even though I only attended GFSS for two years, I can still hear you saying how important "Priorities, commitment and self-discipline" are. You also gave me a great piece of academic advice, which I appreciate to this day.
My condolences to the family.

My deepest sympathy to the Forde family at this time. Arnie is truly a legend. I first heard of Arnie Forde in 1990 when I came to the Peel Board. Just like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, people spoke about Arnie Forde. I finally met the Legend in 1996. First impressions are lasting impressions. Memories of him asking a difficult question followed by a little grin, then the follow up after the answer "is that right". May you rest in peace, you will be missed by many and your legacy will continue forever.

To one of the great ones!! Mr. Forde hired me for my first teaching job at Meadowvale S.S. He instilled in me the importance of "treating every student as if they were my own child". I will never forget his ability to reach some of the "unreachable" and leave a mark of hope in their lives. Thanks for all the memories!!

June 25, 2012

My condolences to the Forde family. I will always remember the impact Mr. Forde had at our high school. He held us up to his own high standards. He was very proud of his family and very proud of his school's accomplishments. We knew what to expect. I owe my need to be punctual to this day on the process (&repercussions)followed at GFSS if you were late. His belief in my leadership skills and exposure to public speaking because of my experience with the Interact Club which he fully supported through the Rotary Club. He was tough, fair, determined , (did I say tough?)and had a great sense of humour. He made a difference at Glenforest and on those of us who grew up under his watch. Rest in peace.

Priorities, commitment and self-discipline. Whenever I hear any of these words I can't help but think of Arnie Forde. May God bless you in the next life

Deepest sympathies for a man I greatly respected and admired. I remember bumping into him years after high school and he remembering my name. A great influence, a great man. Rest in peace.

Mr. Forde was indeed a great man and an inspiration. I remember going to hockey practice with his boys, when they were playing for the Mississauga North Stars. Playing football for him at Glenforest and later visiting him at his sports shop. It was because of people like him that I too decided to go into education. My deepest condolences to all of his family and friends. Arnie was a great guy in every way. Rest in Peace my friend. You will be missed!!

I had the privilege to open a class for developmentally challenged students at Meadowvale Secondary School in 1989 with Mr. Forde as our host principal. He made the students and staff welcome and was willing to provide a variety of opportunities to promote an inclusive community. The class is still thriving some 23 years later. I still have letters of encouragement and reference in my portfolio from Mr. Forde and look back on his words for inspiration and confirmation. Thank you Mr. Forde for all your support. You will be missed fondly by many staff and students who were fortunate enough to have experienced you and your dedication.

Mr. Forde welcomed me as a new student to the Meadowvale S.S. community in my last couple of years in High School. Transferring into a new school community can often be daunting, but Mr. Forde helped me make a successful transition. I will remember him as one of the first people at the door to greet the students, staff and parents. He knew everyone by name and I was convinced he carried a list around with him with all our schedules. He helped shape a strong School Family and was truly an inspirational teacher, role model, principal and mentor! He was a gentle ear when I contacted him about going into teaching. He told me about how people go into teaching thinking that they'll change lives, when really the life that will be changed forever is your own. I often share stories with my "kids" both in and out of the classroom/field/court about him. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Forde's family and friends. You will be missed Mr. Forde!

My sincerest condolences. Mr. Forde was my principal and coach at Glenforest until he left just prior to my senior year. He was a man of great integrity whose strength, discipline, compassion and drive were central in helping me learn right from wrong. It was an honour to have known him and I thank God for putting him in my life. While I attended university, I ran into several people at Acadia University and the surrounding area who spoke of him with great regard, reinforcing the priviledge it was to have played for him and learned so much from him. Thank you for everything Mr. Forde.

Mr. Forde was my first principal in my first 2 years at high school (Glenforest). Seemingly larger than life, but so was his passion for football and our school. Our condolences to the Forde family.

Sue & I were both students at GFSS during Mr. Forde's time there. I was prime minister of the students' council one year, and as such, was "delighted" to work with staff and students, trying to attenuate the emotions when he banned the wearing of blue jeans during school hours.

A tough principal, a good principal, what the school needed then, and Sue & I both look back those many decades to a simpler time when Arnie Forde trail blazed to the future at GFSS.

Thank you Mr. Forde!

Again, condolences to his family.

My condolences to the Forde family....

for losing such an important member of your family and of our society. He was the first principal in Peel to interview me and although I never worked for him, we crossed paths several times after that. I enjoyed talking to him in his sports collectibles store at Dixie and appreciated his sense of humour. Unfortunately, there are few like Arnie; you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who touched so many lives in so many positive ways. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Forde was my science teacher near the beginning of his tenure at Port Credit High School, but to me, he was so much more than an outstanding educator and inspired leader. He was also my mentor and my friend. As a teenager, I spent countless happy hours at their home, where I was always treated with tender loving care by both Shirl and Arnie, and I continued to visit them from time to time over the next five decades. Arnie was one of the warmest and kindest individuals I've had the privilege to know. With his wise counsel and gentle humanity, he had a profound and lasting impact on my life. May you rest in peace, my good and faithful friend. To Shirl and all the other members of the family, my sincere condolences.

Arnie was a wonderful person and principal; strict but fair. Let's be honest, that's exactly what we needed. It was a sad day for hundreds when he left the helm of Glenforest.
Years later, Arnie called my house on the day of my sister's wedding. He said, “Who's this?” in his gruff tone. I said, “Why, who's this?” in my snotty tone. “This is Arnold Forde. Is that you Bridget?” “Oh, sorry Mr. Forde,” I said in my I still respect you tone.
My condolences to his family, friends and to the many people's whose lives that he has touched.

Thank you for giving me my first teaching job, and for the confidence you bestowed on me on many occasions at Meadowvale Secondary School. I'm so happy that I got to know you on a personal level too. You were a very caring and generous man. Thanks for the wonderful colleagues that I met because of you and more importantly for giving me the opportunity to shape the minds of so many students and fill them with the love of languages. I will greatly miss you!! Rest in Peace, Arnie...with all the other angels in Heaven! (Meadowvale SS 1985-2000)

I have great memories of Mr. Forde. He was my principal from 1971 to 1976. I admired him. Respected him. I really learn alot about respect, integrity, and good sportsmanship. It was always nice to see him subsequent to my graduation. Even though we only saw each other every few years he always remembered and always had some supportive comments. Mr. Forde had a great and positive influence on my life. I am grateful. I want his family to know the extent of the influence he had on everyone he met.

My time at Glenforest was brief, but your influence on myself and those around me was profound. I will always remember you, Mr. Ford. Rest in Peace.

Mr. Forde was the principal when my son attended Meadowvale Secondary School from 1995 to 1999. I always felt he was a fair man and the kids respected him from what I saw. Years later while at Dixie Mall, I stopped into his store and although he recognized me, he couldn't remember my name until I told him my name and then he remembered my son. I would like to offer my condolences to the Forde family and friends.
