RIGGS, Barbara M. - June 22, 1922 - January 21, 2013 My darling mother passed away January 21, 2013 peacefully from an unexpected bout with pneumonia in her 91st year. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband, John, and sisters, Sheila Morton and Donna Karabin, she remained to the end the devoted mother of one child, Susan, and the much-beloved "Auntie Barb" to a host of nieces and nephews who thrived under her stellar leadership and guidance. Barbara was the eldest of three daughters born to Margaret and William MCCalla of Toronto. Granddaughter of Frederick W. Halls, founder and President of Fine Papers, she enjoyed a successful career at IBM before happily retiring to the Kingsway with her family, committing herself to extensive volunteer work with Kingsway-Lambton United Church. Her later years were spent forming a bevy of fine friendships in her new home at the Manulife in downtown Toronto, her warm persona casting a sunny glow on all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the chapel on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment Vaughan Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca
