NEWMAN, Blair (Margaret June) - 1927 - 2012 Blair passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 8, 2012 after sustaining significant injury in a tragic fall. Blair will be greatly missed by all those who knew her, especially her family, husband Keith; daughters Leslie and Kerry; grandchildren Joseph, Nicholas, Sophia, Cael and Zara; sister Doreen and brother Tom (both of Dundee, Scotland). Blair was born in England and grew up in Scotland. As a young woman, her greatest dream was to travel the world. After leaving the UK shortly after WWII, she lived abroad in Germany and Africa before immigrating to Canada in 1953. She married Keith in 1957 and children followed shortly. Being a wonderful mother never stopped Blair from continuing to achieve her own goals. She had a successful career as an office services manager at a consulting engineering firm and continued to pursue her love of travel and walking. Blair was an active member of the Bruce Trail Association, successfully hiking all of the trail end-to-end. At age 62, she successfully climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. At 70, she scaled Mount Whitney in California, and at 73, she hiked through New Zealand and Australia, climbing to the top of Ayers Rock. After retiring, Blair became an active volunteer, providing her services to Bereaved Families of Ontario, Canadian Blood Services, TVO and Meals-on-Wheels, among others. After tiring of being called "Peggie" or "Peg", she declared herself to be "Blair" when she was in her 60s. That name stuck. Blair's independent spirit and love of life will continue to inspire her family and friends. Donations in Blair's memory can be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation, H332 - 2075 Bayview Ave., Toronto, ON M4N 3M5. Funds will be directed to the Trauma and Critical Care in the name of Blair (M.J.) Newman.
