Brenda McMAHON Obituary

McMAHON, Dr. Brenda Judith September 18, 1952 - August 16, 2017 Born September 18, 1952 in Guelph, ON to Alice and Norman McMahon, Dr. Brenda Judith McMahon grew up in Forks of the Credit, ON with her dear siblings Lynda Shannon (Wayne), Norma McMahon, Kathi McAuley (Rob), Carol Calhoun (Crede) and Chris McMahon (Jane). Her family and friends were deeply important to Brenda and though distance often separated them, she was close with her nieces and nephews Steven, Drew, Cassandra, Michael, Caileigh, Patrick and Hanna, as well as her extended family Jesse, Ryan, Anne Marie and John. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Laurentian University in 1977, Brenda went on to achieve a Masters' degree from the University of Toronto in 1999 and a Doctorate from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in 2004. As an accomplished educator, Brenda proudly taught at and was a Vice Principal with the Toronto District School Board (Scarborough) and as an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership with Nippising, Florida State and North Carolina Universities. Throughout her career, Brenda was committed to her students, to the right order of race relations and to social justice. Passionate as she was about her family, education and career, Brenda also loved travelling. She enjoyed learning about different cultures, having new experiences and searching out great tequilas. From British Columbia, Alberta, Maryland and Sweden to Machu Picchu and her favourite spots in the world, Barbados and Jamaica, Brenda was often jet-setting. If you knew Brenda, please take a moment to raise your glass and send her off with a fabulous personal toast. Brenda, we love you and miss you!

I had the pleasure of having Ms. McMahon as a Teacher, Vice Principal and later a very close friend. She was straight forward kind compassionate and helped anyway she could. Very fair and wanted everyone to succeed. If you showed her you wanted it she made sure she helped you get it. Unfortunately, we lost touch but she always remained in my thoughts and heart. Thank you Ms. McMahon for believing I could succeed and then assisting me with achieving. You were hard-core, honest, funny, positive and loved to laugh. I loved your laugh. You were truly a blessing in my life and I will always be thankful for meeting you, being your pupil and later you being a very kind friend. I love you. I miss you. I know you are an Angel watching all of us that had the pleasure of knowing you. Rest in Peace Ms. McMahon
