Only met Bruce two or three times and that was two years ago or so....the impression he left on me was indelible....leather jacket, stealy eyes that would make Clint Eastwood turn and a no nonsence air about him...we need more Bruces in this world we have so few champions...missed by all, rest in peace Clem Jones and the Boys.

Dear Celia,
I am so sorry for your loss of a great man and companion. I knew Bruce only for a short while, but in that short time, I realized what an extraordinary human being he really was.A very interesting, intelligent intellectual whom was unafraid to tell the truth in his own perspective. You will have many wonderful memories to help you cope with this difficult task of mourning your partner.
God Bless you and take good care. I'm always a phone call away from you.
Always fondly remembered.

“And still they gazed and still the wonder grew/ That one small head could carry all he knew.”
Oliver Goldsmith "The Deserted Village"
I used to tease Bruce about his intellect for I have many fond memories of fierce intellectual combat sessions at "The Hop and Grape Pub" at College and Yonge where I first met Bruce in the early 80's. As an Irishman who's thoughts often mirrored Bruce's own. We had many a debate over the Irish/English question and more importantly Irish Literature. Keep in mind, I was only an acquaintance and our relationship never made it to pure friendship, that was my loss. Bruce was a Titan among lillputians. His thinking was pure Burkian and was always in pursuit of refining his thoughts, especially to complex questions not easily answered. Like a few of his contemparies, he was constantly groping all the time for proper weight of voice, and for a finer rhetorical and moral synthesis to issues that still bedevil us. He was a one of a kind and with his passing the world just became a little less interesting. In The Fleet Bar in Dublin, Ireland (Newspapermans Bar) there is a quotation over the Bar that reads "A bird is judged by its voice....A man by his conversation". Garvey's conversation was scintilating, his topics lively and his conduct, invariable exemplary. You knew when you engaged him in conversation that you were in the company of an extroardinary human being. I'll not forget him
