MARTYNIUK, Christine - Passed away peacefully in her sleep at Albright Manor, Beamsville, on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at the age of 101 years. Beloved wife of the late Franz (1995). Loved mother of Irene Kurys and her husband George of Etobicoke and Oksana Martyniuk of Grimsby. Cherished grandmother of Oksana Rozanec (Peter), Natalie Kos (Andrew) and Christine Kurys Mackenzie and great-grandmother of Alex, Steven, Andrew and Christine. Predeceased by her parents Angelina and Andrew Lessey and brothers Joseph, Stanley and Michael Lessey. Christine was a resident of Grimsby since 1945 and was co-owner of Quality Meat Market in Grimsby from 1945 - 1969. One of the earliest parishioners at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Grimsby and very active in parish life, especially the Church Choir which was conducted by her loving husband Franz. She dearly loved Ukrainian music. Christine was the last survivor of the original generation of Martyniuks and Lesseys that came to Canada in the 1920s and 1930s. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind over 200 relatives of the Martyniuk and Lessey clans that fondly remember her as a vibrant hostess, skilled storyteller, great cook and a loving and generous aunt.
