I was sad to read of Claude's passing, but remember him fondly. What a kind and caring soul. After pulling a friend and I to safety after our canoe capsized on Georgian Bay, Claude and Rosemary welcomed us into their home. I am happy to have experienced such warmth and am forever grateful.

Claude was a hero; my hero.

In May, 1996, he and Sister Marie pulled me and a friend from the frigid waters off the coast of Thornbury, minutes before we succumbed to severe hypothermia.
Thank-you Claude, for being a caring and courageous fisherman.

I will never forget you.

Dear Rosemary and Family
I first met Claude in 1960 when i articled with Malcolm Robb Q.C
Within a few weeks of my Call to the Bar I appeared as Claudes junior in a case before the Ontarion Court of Appeal. The $175 fee that I earned in that case was instrunental in my decision to go into practice on my own.
Claude was a great lawyer and a fine and decent human being.
He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. My sincere condolences

Dear Rosemary,

We just learned today, December 2nd, of Claude's passing and were deeply saddened by the news. He and you have always been a special part of the many years we have volunteered and participated in the CBA. I (Susan) especially remember as a young lawyer serving on his executive when he was CBA President in 1984-85 and being impressed with his ability to align and inspire a diverse group of independent lawyers to work together effectively and take on specific assignments supporting his vision for the organization. It was a great year and formed the foundation of the special regard with which we have always admired Claude and felt fortunate indeed to share our profession with such an honourable, warm and sincere person. It was always to our great delight when we could spend some time with you both at Bar Association events and we shall always cherish our memories of those times. We wish we had known sooner and been able to attend his service, but want you to know that you are in our thoughts and hope that the joys of his life will be the memories you carry with you.

With all our sympathy,

The Thomson Family,
My condolences for your loss. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Claude as a law clerk for many years at Faskens. He was a kind, honest gentleman who treated everyone with the utmost respect. I look back at that time of my life with fondness as I remember joining Rosemary and Claude for Christmas lunches at the Albany Club and assisting Claude on a very large case during which time he would occasionally indulge himself by sneaking a plate of French fries and making me promise not to tell Rosemary. While he demanded a high quality of work, he was always took the time to teach. I feel honoured to have known him.

Claude and I met in law school and were on the debating team together. He got me my first articling job with Malcolm Robb .It was the beginning of a lifetime of friendship and professional guidance. He was always a good friend, a fine professional colleague and a stalwart in his profession. He was generous with advice and I asked often. He was an ardent and dedicated mentor both in law and as members of the same debating team. No one can ever replace or equal his traditional qualities of humour, helpfulness and love of the law. We will certainly miss him very much.

I came from the "Fasken" side of our merged law firm, and so did not get to know Claude as well as many others, but I learned one thing very quickly : Claude loved the law, but his heart was with his family. I remember particularly Claude almost burtsing with joy as he told me about his plan to take his entire brood - grandchildren and all as I understood it - on a spectacular holiday cruise. I meant to ask him if he kept on working just to pay for that extravagance. I knew the answer, of course, but it would have been fun to provoke, once again, his bemused basso profundo laugh. The halls in our office now feel a little empty and all of us at the firm deeply mourn Claude's passing. Bob Harrison , Fasken Martineau

Dear Campbell - by your own account and the obituary, your dad was clearly a remarkable man who touched so many lives. I'm sure he will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his way of being and caring towards others. I see that you carry forward his legacy in the way you live your own life. I'm truly sorry for your loss and want you to know that you're in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure that your loving family and faith will carry you through this difficult time. God Bless.

Rosemary and family
I am so sorry for your great loss.
I had the privilge and great pleasure to meet, know and interact with Claude from the time I was a very young lawyer until quite recently when we came together for a mediation before him. As a young lawyer with the government he treated me with the same respect others reserved for the older established counsel and it was a lesson I never forget.Whether it was opposite him in weekly court or being at a bar association social function he was always polite, forceful and good humoured. He was a not only a skilled advocate but a principled realist who did not suffer fools gladly but treated even them kindly. He made the litigation world interesting fun and a better place to be.He will be missed.

I worked for Claude Thomson as an articling student and associate at Fasken's in the early 1990's. He was a very fine person and a true gentleman. While demanding of the highest quality work he was always kind and dignified. He was most certainly a role model to me and many others I know both as a lawyer and a fine person. I will always remember him with great respect and admiration. My condolences to his entire family.
