Clive Hobson Obituary

CLIVE HOBSON 1948 - 2011 Clive Hobson's adventurous and passionately lived life touched countless people through his work in forty years as a journalist and public relations executive with some of Canada's best known communications companies. Above all, Clive enriched his large and loving family, who mourn his unexpected passing on August 3, 2011. Clive began his reporting career in 1972 and honed his writing skills by pursuing his passion for sports journalism. He brought intelligence and imagination to his coverage of skiing, sailing, auto racing and golf in various newsrooms over the next decade. Clive's hard work paid off when he was appointed editor of Ski Canada magazine, a post he held through 1988. He then joined Fodor's, a job that took him to every ski hill in North America for skiing, dining and writing ski guides. In the early 1990s, Clive took his communications skills into public relations, joining an ambitious, entrepreneurial team at Tee-Comm Electronics, a founder of ExpressVu (now Bell TV) in Canada and AlphaStar Digital Television in the United States. By bringing his infectious energy and relationship-building skills to product launches, media relations, trade events and investor roadshows, Clive helped introduce direct-to-home satellite television to consumers from coast to coast. He quickly became a sought-after public relations professional, going on to direct public relations for Bell Sympatico, CanWest Media, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Yahoo Canada and finally Innovative Composites. Clive is survived by his partner Donna Trella, her children, Derek and Dove Trella and grandson Christian. He is also sadly missed by Barbara (McFadden) Hobson, step-daughter Jane (McFadden) Hodge, step-son Jeffrey McFadden and five grandchildren: James, Davis, Oliver, Graydon and Scarlette Rose; and by his sister, Sharon Hobson and her family. Clive's parents, Ronald and Peggy Hobson, predeceased him. Clive's funeral will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at First United Church, 151 Lakeshore Road West, Mississauga at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reach for the Rainbow (reachfortherainbow.ca/donate) or the Ontario SPCA (www.ontariospca.ca). Whenever I had the opportunity to spent time with Clive he enriched my world! Hours spent strategizing about my business, drilling me about where I wanted to take my passion and coming up with creative ways to market myself. Crazy fun parties in Lowville, kooky bus trips to Toronto and random meetings at the Lowville Bistro. During every encounter with him his wonderful smile, his zest for life, his intelligence and mostly his caring nature for all that entered his world were always evident. Wherever you are I know it will be a more exiting place. I’ll miss you Clive!
