DAVID IAIN SQUAIR HUNTER, PEng June 26, 1932 - January 25, 2013 With sadness we announce the death of Iain Hunter at the age of 80 years. Dear husband to Irene (nee Ukrintz) for 56 years; loving father to Karen (Daniel Glassco), Maria (Bill Chandler) and Paula (Anthony Da Silva); beloved grandfather to Tyler, Ian, Hayden and Matthew; and treasured brother of Catherine (Norman Watson) and Adrienne (Lionel Martin). Iain was born in Toronto, attended the University of Toronto graduating as a Mechanical Engineer in 1960. Iain learned to fly at the age of 18 at the Toronto Island Airport and was a Bush Pilot in the summers of 1953 through to 1956 throughout Ontario, Quebec and Labrador flying in his beloved Beaver aircraft. Subsequently he flew for Trans- Canada Airlines for eleven months before returning to University to complete his degree. After graduating he took a year off to ski and travel with his wife. For 32 years Iain worked for the Toronto Board of Education within the Engineering department and championed the concept of energy conservation within schools; originating the term "SOS" - "Shut off Something" . A lover of nature and the outdoors, Iain enjoyed his many days at the cottage skiing, swimming, windsurfing, canoeing, chopping wood, making maple syrup and then finishing the day with a beer. Iain truly enjoyed life and all those who knew him will remember him as jovial, encouraging, practical, respectful and sometimes a joker kind of man. Many thanks to the many nurses and doctors at Sunnybrook Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit with special thanks to Anthony, Iain's personal support worker during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice. A celebration of Iain's life will be held in the Visitation Centre in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance) on February 5th, 1-3 p.m. For online condolences, please visit www.etouch.ca
