DORIS ANSELM February 23, 1926 - August 19, 2012 With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Doris Anselm (Jacobs), peacefully on August 19th at the age of 86. Mum was predeceased by Dad (Claude) in March 2011. They were happily married for 59 years. Mum had a wonderfully generous spirit, always putting the concerns of others ahead of her own. She pursued a career in nursing and midwifery, graduating first in the State of Madras (Chennai, India), being awarded the Lady Hope Medal. When Mum and Dad immigrated to Canada in their 50s, Mum returned to nursing school and attained her RN with ease, while babysitting neighbourhood kids and home-making for Dad and the six of us - always with a smile! Mum enjoyed entertaining and feeding everyone who walked through her front door and in addition to her family, festive meals typically included at least one lonely person or the parish priest. She was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed Jeopardy and the daily crossword. Known for her keen sense of humour, she entertained people with her jokes and stories. Lovingly remembered by brother Alfred (Doris), sister Lovey DeClase in Australia, and sister Mercy (Earl) Anselm in Toronto. Mum was loved and respected by her in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear friends around the world. Family and friends will be received at Glen Oaks Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line (Dundas/403), on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Merciful Redeemer Parish, 2775 Erin Centre Blvd., Mississauga at 10 a.m. Interment/reception to follow at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Catholic Broadcasting Council, 21 Dunlop St., Richmond Hill, ON L4C 2M6. Mum favoured this charity, particularly in her later years when she was unable to attend church and was grateful to be able to watch the daily mass offered through Vision and CTS TV. Online condolences and memories can be shared through www.glenoaks.ca You felt so very lonely Mum, ever since Dad died But you can walk together now, forever side by side. So kind was your nature, true were your ways We will treasure your memory Mum, for the rest of our days.
