DOUGLAS BEAUMONT Obituary

DOUGLAS RAYMOND BEAUMONT, P.Eng July 11, 1932 - June 30, 2013 With sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, Doug Beaumont. Loving husband of Betty, brother to Bob (Doris) and Joan Reeves (Rick), father of Bob (Cyndy), Dave and Glenn (Lori), grandfather to Brent, Jeff, David, Dean, Carly, Sara and Adam and great-grandfather to Kyla. Predeceased by his parents Horace and Hazel and his son Dean. Born in Montreal, Doug grew up in Kirkland Lake, Ontario where he met his wife Betty. Doug had an extremely distinguished career in mining and metallurgy having graduated from Queen's University in Metallurgical Engineering in 1955 and working in the industry in northern Quebec, Toronto, Elliott Lake, Vancouver and South America and establishing himself as one of the most recognized experts in gold mining and processing in Canada. Doug continued to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. right up to his passing. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and industry peers. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW) on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, July 4, 2013, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception. I was very saddened to hear the news about Doug. My sympathies to you Betty and all of your family.
Canada's mining community has lost one of it's best.
I was another member of Doug's Kilborn team in Vancouver. Doug (along with Roger Nendick) offered me my first job after graduation as a metallurgist at Kilborn in 1986. Jobs for young engineers were hard to come by at that time and I will always be grateful for the opportunity. As others have stated, under Doug's leadership Kilborn was a terrific company and a great group of people to work with.
The story goes further back - about one or two months after I started at Kilborn, Doug came into my office and seemed to recognize my surname from the past. After a few questions, it turned out that my father had provided Doug (and Ron Smith) a start in the mining industry by giving them their first (and I recall subsequent) summer jobs in the mine in Kirkland Lake, which helped them pay for university. Once again, my deepest sympathies.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Doug's passing . As Doug used to like to remind people "Malcolm and I go back a long way.." In fact we first met in Cantung, NWT in 1965 when I as a green undergrad metallurgist and Doug had his first consulting assignment. He took me under his wing and taught me many ways to improve our plant. Many years later, in 1982, I joined Doug's team in Vancouver. At Kilborn Pacific, Doug brought together one of the best metallurgical consulting and design teams ever. He gave superb direction and latitude for each and every technical person to grow. Under his direction many successful projects were completed around the world. He was a mentor to all of us who had the privilege to work with him.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Betty and all his family at this difficult time...

We were so sorry to hear the news. Our deepest sympathies. We will always remember the good times that we had at Doug and Betty's house! Doug always took such good care of us and made us feel at home and part of the family. Doug was a genuine and caring person. We always appreciated his candour and humour. His legacy will live on through his family. Some of the nicest, down to earth people that you will ever meet. RIP Doug. You have earned it. With great sadness......Bonnie and Chris Molinski
