Shocked and deeply saddened by Doug's passing.
I first met Doug on the Alouettes football field almost 60 years ago, when I was 14. I quickly became his number one fan and even then I knew he was not only a good football player but a very special young man.
When I met him again some 40 years later, he had not only aged gracefully, but was still the same kind, caring person I remembered.
He touched so many lives, mine included, for which I am very grateful. He also touched the lives of my mother, Doroth Walkden, my aunt, Amy Jackson (Jackie), and my husband Stan Tumas.
I feel not only blessed to have known him but I think he made me a better person. I was proud to call him "friend".
He will be sorely missed and always remembered by all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
Heartfelt sympathy to Doug's family - Clara , Len, Christopher, Madalyn, Connor, Jeanne and Sheila.
May he rest in peace.

I was truly saddened to hear of Doug's passing. We were team mates with the Alouettes for three years and continued this friendship through the various alumni reunions. We were always thoroughly entertained with Doug's after dinner speeches on these occasions.
Doug will always be remembered as a gentleman, great player and cherished friend.
My sincere condolences to the family.
