KEHLER, Edward - Passed away at Lakeshore Lodge, Toronto, a place that had become home over the course of the past two years, on November 20, 2013. Born August 27, 1926 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Edward was the last of his ten siblings to die. Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife Millie (Mildred Irene), in 1995. Despite a long and varied career as a bartender at the Gladstone Hotel for 25 years, and several other venues, and as a miner in northern Ontario and Manitoba, Edward found his greatest pleasure in the outdoors. He loved nature and found delight in observing wildlife. Always an independent, self-reliant man, more comfortable helping others than receiving assistance, Edward found the increasing loss of that independence to be his greatest struggle during the past five years. Edward is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, several of whom had the cherished opportunity to spend considerable time with him and each other during the past several years. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. at the G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke, ON, with memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Lakeshore Lodge, where he received exceptional care and great kindness from the Fourth Floor staff.
