GEORGE HECTOR BEATON, O.C. Passed away peacefully in his 83rd year on Monday, October 8, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto following a struggle with cancer. His wife Mary Patricia (Clarke) Beaton, children James, Patricia and Dorcas and grandchildren Patrick, Kathryn, Scott and Heather will fondly remember a dear husband, father and grampa. George was raised in Oshawa by parents Hector John and Madeline Ida (Rogerson) Beaton. He is predeceased by siblings Dorcas Madeline (Oshawa) and John Rogerson (Maryland). He pursued a career as a professor in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, contributing in the creation of the Canada Food Guide and working with international organizations (WHO, CIDA) in aid for third world countries. In 2009 George was inducted as an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of his lifelong contributions to nutrition. The family express their appreciation to Dr. Robert Nam, nurses and physios on D6 and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital for the care and consideration of both patient and family needs during this trying time. In lieu of flowers please remember George with a donation to Sunnybrook Palliative Care or a charity of your preference. Thank you for your thoughts. Friends may call on Saturday, October 13th from 1-2 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel.
