HAMILTON, Sister Gertrude CND (Sister St. Edwin) - Peacefully at the Providence Motherhouse, Kingston, ON, Sister Gertrude Hamilton, Congregation of Notre Dame, died September 28, 2013 in her ninety-second year. Born in Westport, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph Hamilton and Catherine Cawley. She was predeceased by her three brothers and four sisters, P. Everett Hamilton, Edwin Hamilton, Joseph Hamilton, Mary Hosey, Margaret Hamilton, Zita Hamilton and Helen Carty. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. Sister Gertrude was educated at St. Edward's School, Westport and Notre Dame, Kingston. After receiving teacher's training in Ottawa she entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1943, making Religious Profession in 1945. In the following years she dedicated her life to education beginning in Ottawa, followed by Toronto, Ottawa, Cornwall, Peterborough and Westport, returning to Toronto and finally retiring to a ministry of prayer in Kingston. Over the years she served the Educational Community as a teacher, an Administrator, a Religious Education Resource Teacher and as an Adult Religious Educator. Friends will be received at the Township Chapel of Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home, 435 Davis Drive, (Taylor Kidd Blvd. and Centennial Drive) on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 and from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. with Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Church, 392 Palace Road on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Rite of Committal in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston, ON.
