GIOVANNI VERNI It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Giovanni Verni on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Humber River Hospital in his 87th year. Beloved husband and friend of Sabina for 50 years (predeceased). Dearest father of Maria Saveria, Nicolas Antonio and Antonietta Rita (Antonio Maione). Loving grandfather (Nonno) of Robert Conrad di Rosa, Thomas Joseph Phelan, Sabina and Stefania Verni, Francesco and GianLuca Maione. Survived by sister Maria Pontrelli. He will be held dear in the heart of his family and many friends in Bari, Italy, California and New York. Giovanni will be fondly remembered for his "joie de vivre", his generous heart of gold and his art of winemaking. He had a wonderful love of family, and children. He was a precious gift to us all. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 29th from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Bernardo Funeral Homes (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave.). Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Charles Borromeo (811 Lawrence Ave. at Dufferin St.) at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. Entombment will follow in Prospect Cemetery (1450 St. Clair Ave. W., west of Dufferin St.). As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.
