IRENE GARRETT (nee PATTERSON) Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 95 years of age. She will be sorely missed by her daughter, Nancy Konzuk (Blaine) of Bruce Mines, and sons, George Garrett (Sharon) of Moffat, and Pat Garrett (Sue) of Dundas. Predeceased by her husband, Harold Wilson Garrett by 40 years, her brothers, Lorne, Jack and Don Patterson and sisters, Shirley Jones and Margaret Campbell. "Grandma" cherished her grandchildren, Doug Konzuk (Jenn) of Cochrane, AB, Julie Konzuk (Charles Gravelle) of Brampton, Karen Konzuk (Dwayne Dobson) of Garden Bay, BC, Chris Garrett (Sarah Hipkin) of Edmonton, Kari Garrett (Brian Barg) of Guelph, Jim Garrett (Tammi) of Hamilton and Melissa Ilievski (Nick) of Hamilton and her great-grandchildren, Maddie and Aiden Gravelle, Cam and Katrina Konzuk, Emily Dobson and Morgan Connery-Barg with all her heart. She actively followed all their achievements and joined eagerly in any celebrations they might have right up to the end. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved her for her spunk and interest in their lives. Irene was born in Newmarket, ON in 1917, the daughter of druggist Will Patterson and his wife, Florence (MCManus). After graduating from University of Toronto with a degree in Modern Languages, she married Harold in 1942 and they raised their three children in Newmarket until their teaching careers took them from Newmarket High School to Etobicoke. Irene taught high school French for many years. On her retirement, she volunteered as a driver for Red Cross and as a reading assistant for students in her local Mississauga elementary school. Her favourite times were spent in summers at a cabin in Haliburton where all the family congregated for 30 summers. She celebrated her 70th birthday hiking in the Alps and her 94th flying with her grandson pilot over Tobermory in his helicopter. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St. (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW) on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Service to Celebrate her Life at 11 a.m. in the Chapel.
