DR. JAE WON YANG June 10, 1966 - November 28, 2012 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Jae on November 28, 2012. Jae was deeply devoted to his wife and soul- mate Margaret and his children Matthew, Adam and Hanna. He was a truly dedicated son to his mother Hae Sook and his father, the late U Taek Yang. Also left to mourn are members of the extended Yang and Srebrnjak families, colleagues and many friends. Jae will forever be remembered as a passionate man who seized each day living life to the fullest. He was a dedicated family man, skilled and gifted, a talented golfer and musician, a natural coach and teacher, as well as being a great friend to all. Jae had achieved an enviable work-life balance. Along with his commitment to his career, he was devoted to his family, spending countless hours at the hockey rink with his children and exploring the world with his wife. Jae graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1991 and subsequently became a noted respirologist. In 1999 he was named Director of the Tuberculosis Program at St. Michael's Hospital and led it throughout his career. He was also Education Director for the Respirology Division. In 2008 Jae became the Program Director for Respirology at the University of Toronto, leading and overseeing the development of doctors becoming lung specialists. A compassionate and caring physician, Jae advocated for his patients, including the disadvantaged and isolated. He was a much-loved teacher and adviser, receiving countless awards for his teaching, accepted always with humility. His international impact on tuberculosis care was acknowledged in 2001 by the American College of Chest Physicians with the Governors' Community Service Award. His family is so proud of his legacy, as evidenced by the outpouring of support from his colleagues at his beloved St. Mike's during his last few weeks. His family would like to express their immense appreciation to the staff on 15B and 14B at Princess Margaret Hospital. The ICU nurses and doctors at St. Michael's Hospital will be remembered for their extreme compassion and diligence. Special thanks to Drs. Messner and Michelis of Princess Margaret Hospital, the St. Michael's Division of Respirology and Dr. Gary May at St. Mike's. Thanks also to all our friends and family for their ongoing support. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway, on Saturday from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery.
