Jewel and I had a profound conversation years ago about death. We both strongly believed there is no such thing - and the energy of the soul simply moves on to another time or being or place. I'm grieved she passed from this life so young, but inspired by her lasting and remarkable contribution. I feel blessed to have known her and been even a small part of her journey.

I send deepest condolences to Jewel's family and friends. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but as co-CEO of Archie Comics, I am deeply touched and impressed by Ms. Kats' remarkable real life accomplishments. I am grateful to her for inspiring the introduction of Harper Lodge, who carries out Jewel's mission of empowerment and mutual respect. I have always believed that we should do as much as we can in the time that we are given, and Jewel did exactly that! Even through her challenges, she used understanding and enlightenment to create a better world for many people. As I travel to expand the world of graphic literacy, I will pay tribute by invoking Harper Lodge to echo Jewel's values and to help keep her voice with us for a very long time.

The world has lost a bright and talented shining star. A wonderful, loving, caring and giving person. Always thinking of others before herself.

James and I worked with Jewel when she acted and contributed written material to the play, Swept Away which toured Ontario and ran at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in 1999. She had a natural talent and grace. I enjoyed knowing her and working with her so much. She was kind and thoughtful and soooo intelligent and sweet. My sincerest condolences to all of you. Jewel loved you all so much and was incredibly proud of every one of you. Alan, you truly were her "Prince Charming." We have lost one of the most fine and rare gems this world has ever known. My words cannot do any justice so I will just say that you made me a better person for having known you Jewel, and your legacy will live on in the hearts of millions of children (and the young at heart) for many years to come.
