John Bradley Obituary

JOHN LAMBERT BRADLEY On Monday, December 6, 2010, John Bradley (89) passed away peacefully at the Toronto East General Hospital. John was predeceased by his father James Bradley, mother Alice Bradley (nee Lambert) and brother Robert Bradley. He will be greatly missed by his sister Barbara Hills and family. During his teaching career, John taught at Crescent School in Toronto, St. Andrews College in Aurora and was the Co-Founder of Royal St. George's College Toronto. John was an accomplished organist and choir leader, dedicated to a lifetime of service at St. Crispin's Anglican church in Scarborough, St. Anne's Anglican Church in Toronto, Rosedale United Church in Toronto and the Diocese Summer Music School in Port Hope. Ontario. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Cathedral Chapel, 65 Church Street, Toronto, 416-314-7865 (King and Church Street), on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 3 p.m. John lived a life time of service to the church and the academic community. John felt most blessed by the inspiration and great help from others.

I met John while attending noon-hour organ concerts on Tuesdays at St. James Cathedral and subsequently we became good friends. John was a delight to be with. Occasional lunches after the concert with fellow organists, at the pub on Front Street, was an event I looked forward to. We had many laughs and good conversation on any subject you could think of. Will miss him greatly.

I was Mr. Bradley's (I just can't call him John!) student and a member of the choir at Royal St. George's way back in the early 70s. I remember the trip to England and Holland with him. Godspeed!

John's family hopefully will take comfort from the indelible and fond memories he left with generations of choristers at the Toronto Diocesan Choir School and beyond. I was fortunate enough to attend the TDCS for many years as a chorister, followed by several more working with John on staff. Each session was permeated by his formidable character, his truly unique sense of humour, and his obvious and profound concern for the welfare of the boys under his care. In my mind, he is timeless and eternal. Rest in peace John.
