HARVEY, John Thomson (Jack) - Passed away peacefully at the Stedman Hospice in his 92nd year on December 22, 2012. Predeceased by his parents and younger brother Edward. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Jean, his children Judy (Alex), John (Nancy) and grandchildren Kerrie, Shannon and Scott (Kelsey) and great- grandson Wesley. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1944 in electrical engineering, he enlisted in the Canadian Army. In 1946, he joined the Toronto Transit Commission to start a 34 year career. During this time he was instrumental in the development and construction of Toronto's subway system, serving as Chief Engineer. He later became General Manager of Subway Construction and, at the time of his retirement in 1980, he was the General Manager of Operations. Up until that time he was one of only two people to have held both positions. Following his career with the TTC, he worked as a private consultant. He later stopped working to devote his time to his model trains, winter trips to Florida and to spending more time at his cottage on Lake Muskoka. Jack was a master of all trades and continued building and renovating his cottage from its purchase date in 1966 up until a few years ago. In 1992, he moved to Brantford to be closer to his grandchildren. Jack belonged to Grand River Kiwanis and Probus for several years. Cremation and a family service have already taken place. If desired, donations can be made to the Stedman Community Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to the Dennis Toll Funeral Home, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford.
