John Norris Obituary

NORRIS, John Welman - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John on Sunday, January 31, 2010. He fought the good fight as long as his body permitted. Born in Surrey, England in 1934, John was always the British gentleman - quiet, wry, kind and honourable. He immigrated to Canada in his early 20s to pursue his passion - the love and experience of Jazz Music. He remained true to his dreams and will be missed by the Jazz Community worldwide. John leaves behind a tremendous Jazz legacy and a family he treasured: his wife Sandi, his sister Catherine Norris, his brothers William and Pat Norris, his in-laws Doreen and Brian Armstrong, Bill and Valerie Nicholson, his mother-in-law June Nicholson and his nephews and nieces Kevin, Charla, Kristen, Derek, Mark and Robert. Many thanks to Dr. Eva Lorber for her compassionate care of John and Doctors Domenic Amato and Christine Chen for their expertise in his cancer care. Per his wishes, a Jazz celebration of John's life will be held in the late spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ken Page Memorial Trust supporting Jazz Music or to the Multiple Myeloma Cancer Research at Princess Margaret Hospital. 'May you hear the sweet horns blowing, the tinkling of ivories and your step always be behind the beat... my love.'
