Oh Karina, Only I called her that and it started in college in Lennoxville. I will miss you and you awesome ways with cats and birds and gardening and doing your own renos. You were always there via email to debunk any fancy story that happens there and keep me on the knowledge side of things. You were a brides maid at my wedding and you made your own dress!! You the one who showed how to sell things on ebay (even though I never got the guts to do it) I just sent you a christmas card and now it will never get to you. The world will be a much duller place with out you. I love you and miss you!!
to Karen's Mom - call me 604-522-5907. To her brothers that she loved my sympathies.

For my beautiful friend Karen,
Thank you for enriching my experience of life. I will always cherish my memories of you; your love of paperback mysteries, anecdotes of the feline friends you cared for, your love of word craft, demonstrating how one can be stylish whilst being frugal, your encyclopaedic knowledge of film, your wisdom couched in wit, your insightful observations, which were always expressed with perfect candour, the photograph of you as a child, your tolerance of my frequent visits to your desk for chats and the edification born of them. For all of these and a good deal more, you have my everlasting gratitude. I love you Karen and miss you ineffably.
Your friend, Matt Smrdelj

I knew Karen only from the email list of the Editors' Association, but I made sure always to read her posts - I valued her input, her grace and wit. And of course, I always loved to hear about her cats.
To Karen's mother and brothers, please accept my sincere condolences.

Since hiring her on contract back in December 2005, and working with her from that time until November 2008, I have always known Karen to be a kind, intelligent and caring person. I will remember her through the many conversations we had about environmental issues, cats, home renovation and the art of roasting coffee beans.
My sincerest condolences to Karen's family - although we never met, through her conversations we got to know a little about each person important to her in her life.
I will miss Karen dearly.

Karen, a talented writer, an avid gardener, a lover of all animals (except a select few squirrels and raccoons), a treasure seeker and a person I called my friend. A real and unique character that I will never forget.
I met Karen about 12+ years ago, after having the opportunity to work alongside her and we became friends. Like the many wild birds she had introduced me to - and some we saved together, she flitted in and out of my life. I was happy to have reconnected with her and to be in contact again over the last couple of years -- only to have lost her too soon, too suddenly.
She will be missed by all whose lives were touched by her. My heartfelt sympathy go out to her loving mother and brothers.

Though I have never met Karen in person, I conversed with her from time to time on our editor's listserv about gardening, her search for a new job, and best wishes on the new job when she shared the news with us.I will miss her posts to our list.
To Karen's family and friends, I offer my condolences in your loss and prayers for comfort in your grief.

I also knew Karen only through her contributions to the EAC list. She was a very gentle presence there but made me laugh out loud more than once with her observations on life and cats. I will miss her.
