LEO JAMES "JIM" MCNAMARA The family of Jim is saddened to announce that he lost his battle with cancer, and passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the age of 87. Devoted husband of 59 years to Dolores (nee Wheeler). Beloved father of Stephen (Shelley), Michael (Jo Krause), Jennifer Thomson (David), Karen Bohn (Lorne), Shelley Mathieson (Michael Martin), Peter (Jackie). Proud grandfather of Bryan (Candace), Melissa (Jay Purdy), Stephen Thomson (Karen Chorney), Jeremy Mathieson (Brittney Collett), Shawna Thomson (Craig), Emily Mathieson, Cailin, Molly, Justin, Rielly, Ella Bohn and Jaxon Bohn. Great-grandfather of Tatyana, Sara, Larissa, Austin, Zander and Devon. Survived by his sisters Edna "Teddy", Marie Coburn (Shane), Marg Flint (Bruce, deceased), Jaci Johnston (Jim), and his brother Paul (Bonnie). Son of the late Michael and Verna MCNamara. Jim will be missed by many nieces and nephews and by caregiver Marivic Anion. Jim was born on July 21, 1925 in Greenan, SK. The family experienced hard times during the depression in Saskatchewan and moved to Toronto in 1934 so Jim's father could find work. Jim started his career in 1942 with CN Telegraphs and enlisted as aircrew with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. He trained as a wireless operator air gunner, and served overseas for 10 months. Jim was promoted through the ranks to Flight Sergeant, and returned safely home to Toronto in the summer of 1945. At war's end Jim returned to work at CN Railways, and later CNCP Telecommunications where he stayed until his retirement in 1987, after 45 years of loyal service. A longtime resident of Pottageville, Jim was actively involved in local sports and community ventures, including Kettleby-Pottageville Lions Club, serving as President for many years. In 2006 Jim and Dolores moved into Newmarket to be closer to medical facilities and transit.
